I will be planting hedges, restoring ditched in chalk streams, digging out/ restoring a derelict pond and restoring the historic farmstead we now have. Irresponsible farming degrades farming. Responsible farming restores natural capital. We can do both.

The highs and lows of keeping sheep. The black ewe was found exhausted in the field a few morning ago. Twin lamb drench, move to lamb shelter, magnesium injection, leave for 12 hours. She started labour that evening, lamb presents but head stuck on tail bone of mum. Scott our head shepherd arrives, finger in bum hole, push lamb head into proper place, big popping sound, out pops lamb 1, followed by lamb two. All alive and well and back in the field as if nothing had happened. This lambing season, Mali my daughter has been in isolation with me here in Chanctonbury. She has been overseeing the lambing of our Wild Ones Flock. It’s truly remarkable watching the next generation take on the task of caring for creation with great courage and sensitivity. Yes I am a very proud Father, however I am also very proud of what this next generation will accomplish, having learned from the mistakes of the previous.
